The first Polynesian to play professional football will finally receive his just reward.
Albert "Al" Lolotai, who passed away in 1990 after five seasons in the NFL, will be inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall Of Fame as a contributor in the Class of 2016.
Lolotai began his career with the Redskins, playing mostly guard for one year, and collected an interception. He also returned one kick for 15 yards with Washington before playing four seasons with the Los Angeles Dons.
He will join four other inductees, including Carles Teetai Ane Jr. (Samoan ancestry), Rockne Crowningburg Freitas (Hawaiian ancestry), Troy Polamalu (Samoan ancestry) and Vai Sikahema (Tongan ancestry).
Lolotai also joins Raymond Frederick Schoenke and Kurt Keolo Gouveia as the other former Redskins inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The Inductees were chosen by a selection committee composed of past head football coaches Dick Tomey (Chairman), LaVell Edwards, Ron McBride and Dick Vermeil, ESPN SportsCenter anchor Neil Everett, NFL player personnel expert Gil Brandt, past NFLPA president and Inaugural Inductee Kevin Mawae and Hawai'i sportscaster Robert Kekaula.
