On Monday, Arie Kounandjio signed an NFL contract just miles away from the place on which he first touched American soil.
Coming to the United States – specifically Dulles Airport -- from Cameroon 17 years ago, he made a similar pilgrimage through the same airport to Redskins Park this past weekend.
"It means everything in the world," he said about being drafted by his hometown team. "My house has exploded. Everybody is super excited. It is just so awesome to go back home, it's been a while."
Kouandjio, who addressed media after getting picked, said he is ready to bring that positive energy to the field to help fulfill his dream.
"I feel like I have improved well, I am powerful, I feel like I'm very balanced and have great pass protection," he said. "I feel like I'm tenacious and I feel like I bring a lot of energy, fearsomeness and a warrior mentality in everything that I do."
