Blaylock Placed On Injured Reserve

Running back Derrick Blaylock has been placed on injured reserve, and the Redskins have re-signed Dee Brown to replace him on the roster.

Blaylock, a six-year NFL veteran previously with the New York Jets, entered preseason hoping to supplant Rock Cartwright as the team's third running back and kick returner.

He sustained a heel injury in the Redskins-Ravens preseason game on Aug. 25, finishing the preseason with 23 rushes for 57 yards and three receptions for 13 yards.

The Redskins have given Blaylock an injured reserve designation that could allow the team to bring him back mid-season, however.

Both Blaylock and Brown played under Al Saunders in Kansas City. Blaylock was with the Chiefs from 2001-04 when Saunders was the top offensive coach.

Brown, a 5-10, 210-pound running back with five years of NFL experience, was with the Redskins in training camp, but he was released on Aug. 23.

Brown, a sixth-round draft pick by the Panthers in 2001, played for Kansas City the last two years. He has also had stints with Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

In his career, he has rushed for 405 yards on 119 carries and caught 21 passes for 114 yards. He can also return kickoffs.

Brown is expected to play in Thursday night's preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
