Tight end Chris Cooley is listed as questionable for Sunday's season opener against the New York Giants.

Meantime, strong safety LaRon Landry has been declared out for the game as expected.

Cooley was limited in practice all this week as he continued to come back from a knee injury.

Head coach Mike Shanahan suggested earlier this week that Cooley would be a game time decision.

"He's making some strides and hopefully he keeps on going and there's no setback," he said. "If the knee swells up at all, we'll kind of get a feel after Friday's practice and probably Saturday.

Cooley hasn't practice full-go in nearly a month so he may need to get back into football shape.

"It takes some time to get back into football shape for him to feel comfortable with himself," Shanahan said.

Fred Davis would likely start in place of Cooley on Sunday.

Landry hinted earlier this week that he probably would not play in the season opener. He continues to be slowed by a pulled hamstring.

Reed Doughty is expected to start in place of Landry.

Rookie safety DeJon Gomes could be called into action as a third safety. Gomes earned a roster spot with a strong preseason.

"He's looked pretty good," Shanahan said. "We feel good about him. He can play both the strong safety and the free safety position. He has a lot of speed and upside. He's still a rookie, but I think he's handling everything and he's very sharp."
