Could Turf Be Coming To FedExField?

After hosting three home games in the last four weeks, the field conditions at FedExField were once again a topic of conversation after the game.

Running back Roy Helu Jr. slipped after making a catch on third down in the first quarter and wide recevier Pierre Garcon caught a pass in acrobatic fashion from the ground in the second quarter.

"I lost my footing out there," Garcon said after the game. "I knew the ball was coming to me, and I just had to make a play."

On the decisive 4th-and-10 conversion on the Cowboys' final touchdown drive, cornerback Josh Wilson slipped in coverage leaving the Dallas receiver wide open.

"You don't have a clue what [Romo]'s going to do," Wilson said on the scramble play. "I slipped. It's tough in these conditions."

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan refused to use field conditions as an excuse for the team's seventh-straight loss.

"Both teams were playing in the same conditions," Shanahan said of the game. "I thought it was better than the previous two games even though it was quite wet."

Playing the schedule dealt by the league, the Redskins have had poor luck with weather in recent weeks, playing games in the snow and rain in the last two games.

In his Monday press conference, Shanahan reaffirmed his preferences for a natural grass playing surface,

"To be honest with you, yeah, I always have," he said. "I like grass, but I wouldn't make that decision."

Shanahan confirmed that as part of the team's offseason discussions with ownership, a move to synthetic tuef is a possibility.

"To be honest with you, with some of the new turf they have, you'd always entertain the possibility," he explained. "Two or three years in a row, you see how bad that field is, it's something you would definitely look at."
