Doug Williams and Shack Harris' tremendous efforts to provide resources and opportunities for local students continue on.

The Washington Football Legends on March 26 will host its eighth annual Scholarship Gala at the Bethesday North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.

The Washington Football Legends, of course, was established by Williams, the legendary Redskins quarterback who was Super Bowl XXII MVP, and Harris, a former Pro Bowl quarterback with the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers who has also served as a team executive with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions, to raise money for minority students seeking higher education.

Their efforts are all culminated with the annual Scholarship Gala, which is "an annual nostalgic evening of tribute, food and fun to honor football legends in our nation's capital and provide scholarships for minority students."

"The Washington Football Legends Scholarship Gala is a meaningful endeavor that benefits those in need in our area and recognizes outstanding achievement," Williams said. "This year we have two co-winners, meaning we get to honor more deserving players. The support of Marriott International, the Washington Redskins and the NFL has been instrumental in making this night a great success every year."

As usual, this year's event lives up to the billing, as it will recognize the following award honorees:

-- Redskins quarterback Trent Williams, who is being named the 2015 Washington Football Legends Redskins Player of the Year.

-- Redskins great center Jeff Bostic, who is being named the Bobby Mitchell Champion of the Gridiron

-- Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan and Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds, who are being named the Washington, D.C.-area College Players of the Year

-- Damascus High's Jake Funk and St. John's College High's Terrell Hall, who are being named the Herman Boone High School Players of the Year

-- And former Redskins running back and return specialist Brian Mitchell, a mainstay on ESPN980 and Comcast Mid-Atlantic, who is being named the George Michael Excellence in Media honoree.

The honorees are chosen by a selection committee that includes local media members Larry Michael, Rick "Doc" Walker, Chick Hernandez and Glenn Harris.
