Damascus High School Football Coach Honored

The Washington Redskins announced today that head football coach Eric Wallich of Damascus High School in Damascus, MD has been named Redskins High School Coach of the Week for the week of September 20, 2010.

The Redskins High School Coach of the Week program is designed to recognize and reward excellence in high school football coaching.

Coach Wallich is in his third year as head coach for Damascus High School. Wallich motivates his student-athletes by keeping an open line of communication and emphasizing the need to be a solid unit. "Coach Wallich was a student at Damascus High School and he knows the traditions of the past. In his 3 years as the head coach he has embraced many of the past traditions while incorporating his own into the program. Damascus [High School] had been in the play-offs for ten straight years and he has grown this streak to twelve. His philosophy is to prepare his players for 'Life,' not just football but preparing for a job, career, trade school or college" says Athletic Director Joseph Doody. The Swarmin Hornets are currently ranked #4 on the *Washington Post High School Football Rankings *with a record of 3-0.

Coach Wallich is also an active member of the Damascus community. He is actively involved in the Damascus Sports Association youth football program where he offers clinics to coaches and runs a speed and agility camp for their players. Additionally, Coach Wallich helped Damascus High School start a golf tournament as a fundraiser to raise funds for facility upgrades.

Each week during the 2010 high school football season, the Redskins will select one area high school head coach as the Redskins High School Coach of the Week. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes, his overall community involvement and overall team performance and record.

Each of the coaches chosen throughout the high school season will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Youth Football Fund to their football program and a framed certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan and Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen.
