FedExField, the home of the Washington Redskins, will welcome two of college football's premiere teams when defending Big East Champion Cincinnati hosts defending Atlantic Coast Conference Champion Virginia Tech in 2012.

"We are excited to have Cincinnati and Virginia Tech playing at FedExField," Redskins Chief Marketing Officer Mitch Gershman said. "This game, a rematch of the 2009 Orange Bowl, highlights two outstanding programs and continues FedExField's commitment to hosting the most competitive and nationally acclaimed matchups in the country."

Information on tickets sales and kickoff time will be released at a later date.

The game marks the Bearcats' initial visit to FedExField, while it will be the third trip for Virginia Tech, joining a 2004 contest with Southern California and an upcoming matchup with Boise State in 2010.

Under the direction of two-time reigning Big East Coach of the Year Brian Kelly, Cincinnati has become one of the upstart programs in the nation. The 10-0 Bearcats are currently ranked fifth in the Associated Press poll and are fifth in the Bowl Championship Series standings.

Cincinnati is 32-6 in Kelly's three seasons at the helm, including wins in 16 of their last 17 contests. The lone defeat came at the hands of Virginia Tech in last season's FedEx Orange Bowl.

Virginia Tech has become one of the nation's elite powers in head coach Frank Beamer's 23 seasons in Blacksburg. The Hokies have finished in the top 20 in 13 of the past 16 seasons and currently stand at No. 16 in the AP poll. Last season marked their fifth straight with at least 10 wins and ended with their 16th consecutive bowl appearance.

FedExField will also host other high profile college football games in the coming years: Boise State-Virginia Tech and Penn State-Indiana in 2010 and the 112th Army-Navy Game in 2011.
