Gibbs Post-Game: Redskins-Eagles

Opening Statement:

"I think the Eagles have a heck of a football team. I have to say congratulations to them. They did a real good job coaching and playing. The crowd was a big part of it today. We had a ton of penalties because guys had a tough time hearing. It affected us. We would get down inside with a chance to get a score, or at least kick field goals, and we had a lot of penalties today. We have to go home and take a long hard look at it. Guys came out and played hard, went after it hard, but I think you have to give them the credit today."

On the inability to get touchdowns in the red zone:

"We had two real good opportunities to get down inside, but a lot of penalties hurt us. We'll take a look at them. Basically our guys had a tough time hearing. That was a big part of it. You just have to give a lot of credit to their fans. This is a tough environment to play in."

On Patrick Ramsey:

"I thought he was very solid. He had a lot of poise. He did a very good job. I thought he handled things very well. It's a tough place to come and play. It's a tough place to start, but I felt like he was poised and did a good job for us."

On the game plan:

"In general, we were trying to play it smart against what they do. When you play Philadelphia, you have to be very careful. They're very aggressive. And so we tried to have a good solid game plan based on what they do. I thought Patrick handled it real well. Like I said, it's a tough place to come and get your first start. But I thought he handled it very well."

On bouncing back from the loss:

"Well, we've had a lot of tough things happen to our team this year. We've had to bounce back from a lot of tough things. The thing I've been proudest of is our guys fighting hard every week. But you have to give the Eagles credit. We were fighting hard, but we just couldn't make the plays at key times in the games. And we couldn't get points when we had to."

On mistakes, such as penalties and dropped passes:

"First of all, avoiding penalties are something we pride ourselves on. We spend more time in practice with referees. I think you have to give them some credit, the crowd made it pretty tough to hear things. As far as drops, that's us. We just have to work harder at catching the football."

On Randy Thomas's injury:

"I think he has a hamstring injury. If I had to guess, I think it could be a couple weeks. But I'm just guessing."

On where the team goes from here:

"The best way to help our football team is to win. What we do each week is try to get ourselves ready to try and win a game. We have to go to Pittsburgh next week. It'll be a real tough assignment. I think we have to fight our way through this. I'd sure like to get some guys back healthy. But we'll see. The only way to get out of this is to fight our way out of it. It's all of us together. It's a tough thing for us to go through. Sometimes in life, you go through tough times. You have to fight your way through it. Every time I've been through a tough one, as I've said before, when I come out the other side, I really appreciate it. And I learn a lot. So right now we're going through a tough time."

On this being a character test for the team:

"If we picked the right guys, which we think we have, then they'll continue to fight."
