Griffin III Leads Dominant Starting Effort

After a shaky performance last week in Chicago, the Redskins starters got a mulligan today, opening up a 14-7 lead in the first half against the Colts.

Rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III looked poised in the pocket, distributing 11 passes to eight different receivers.  He also collected seven first downs through the air, and picked up another five yards with his feet.

Griffin III finished with a respectable 73 yards and a touchdown to veteran receiver Santana Moss, with a commanding 93.8 QB rating.

The offensive performer of the first half was Alfred Morris, who rushed 14 times for 107 yards and 7.6-yard-per-carry clip.  His long rush of the day was an 24-yard rumble up the middle, and he also celebrated the first touchdown of his career.

The offense was backed by a stellar defensive performance that yielded only one 160 yards and a touchdown, while keeping Colts quarterback Andrew Luck off balance.

Linebackers Ryan Kerrigan and London Fletcher were the first to break through the Colts' line, sacking Luck.  Kerrigan has had at least one-half sack in each of the three preseason games so far.

Defensive end Stephen Bowen followed this up with a solo sack of his own.

On special teams, the Redskins have used both kickers this afternoon, and tight end Niles Paul and receivers Brandon Banks and Santana Moss in the return game.

Redskins lead midway through the third quarter, 16-7.
