Hollenbach's In, Fife's Out On Practice Squad

The Redskins signed rookie quarterback Sam Hollenbach to the practice squad on Friday.

The team released Jason Fife, a first-year quarterback, from the practice squad just two days after signing him.

Hollenbach, 6-4 and 218 pounds, was with the Redskins last offseason and participated in OTAs and mini-camp, but he was released prior to training camp.

Hollenbach admitted surprise that he was brought back to the Redskins midseason.

"Initially I couldn't believe the Redskins had called me because they had just signed a quarterback [Fife], so I wasn't expecting it," he said. "After that, I just realized I was given another chance. I just want to come out here and have fun with it."

At the University of Maryland, Hollenbach was only the fourth quarterback in school history to throw for more than 5,000 yards in his career. He earned honorable mention all-ACC honors as a senior.
