Jerry Smith Hall of Fame Debate Reignited

Forrmer Washington Redskins tight end Jerry Smith was one of the best players at his position in NFL history by almost every metric, yet he is not enshrined in Canton, Ohio.

Clark Judge made the case on the Talk of Fame Network that Smith, who still holds multiple Redskins tight end receiving records, has not gotten the recognition he deserves and has earned the opportunity to enter the Hall of Fame.

Smith, who died in 1986, spent his entire 13-year career with the Redskins, amassing 421 receptions, 5,496 yards and 60 touchdowns during the embryonic stage of NFL passing development in the 1960s and 1970s.

Smith's 60 career touchdowns was an NFL record for tight ends that stood for 26 years. Despite his record-setting career, Smith has never come close to making the Hall of Fame.

Judge argues that the debate around Smith's candidacy needs to begin now.
