'Jim Zorn Show': Offense Is Coming Together

The Redskins' offense compiled a season-high 455 total yards of offense last Sunday vs. New Orleans, posted a season-high 28 first downs and scored 30 points for the first time since the 2007 season.

Want more? They scored a touchdown on their first offensive possession for the second consecutive game, the first time they did that since 2004.

After early season struggles, it appears there is a newfound confidence on offense.

Head coach Jim Zorn said the improvement is a matter of the players staying together as a group. The unit has had to overcome injuries all season long, with starters Clinton Portis, Chris Cooley, Chris Samuels, Ladell Betts and Randy Thomas all on injured reserve.

Zorn's thoughts on the Redskins' offense were among the topics on "The Jim Zorn Show" this week.

"They're improving each week in practice, working hard, and they're understanding what we're trying to get across," Zorn said. "And then on game days, they're playing with enthusiasm and they're executing. We're working together with who we've got.

"To them, it's kind of a challenge, 'Okay, this is what we're going to put out on the field, and we're going to give it our best.' And I'm proud of that."

Zorn also discussed the Redskins' preparations for the Oakland Raiders during his appearance on "The Jim Zorn Show," which airs on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC-WRC 4. The show is hosted by Dan Hellie and Larry Weisman.

Zorn, a former NFL quarterback, is impressed with Oakland quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, who threw three fourth quarter touchdown passes last Sunday in a 27-24 upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I think he's a courageous player," Zorn said. "He plays emotionally packed game, to his team and to his himself. I think he has been inspiring to the Raiders. I'm sure they have a package for him that he feels comfortable with. We'll see what we can do against him."

This week's edition of "The Jim Zorn Show" also includes a Wired Up segment with center Casey Rabach and a GameTime segment with running back Rock Cartwright.
