Tight end Jordan Reed, who is dealing with a thumb injury, will not play Thursday night. Wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Reggie Diggs will not suit up either.

Jordan Reed will not travel with the Washington Redskins for their first preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday. The tight end sprained his right thumb last week and was held out of Friday's practice, though head coach Jay Gruden said he could have participated that day.

Reed has since returned to practice, but Gruden said he will stay behind to receive additional treatment for the injury. Gruden also ruled out wide receiver Jamison Crowder with a hamstring strain and wide receiver Reggie Diggs, who sustained an undisclosed knee injury on the same one he had arthroscopic surgery on in May.

Outside linebacker Preston Smith strained one of his shoulders at practice on Tuesday, but Gruden said there is a "good chance" he plays on Thursday against the Falcons. The team has also not made a decision on left tackle Trent Williams, who was held out of practice last Thursday and Friday with knee soreness. Williams returned to practice on Sunday but has been limited, mostly participating in individual drills.

"He's going to come on the trip, get a good day of treatment Wednesday with us up there – Thursday morning in Atlanta – and then we'll see on Thursday evening whether he's going to dress or not," Gruden said.
