Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said several players, including linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and wide receiver DeSean Jackson, will sit out as a precaution in Thursday's preseason opener vs. the Browns.*

The Washington Redskins will be without several players Thursday in their 2015 preseason opener, most of whom are being held out for precautionary reasons.

Head coach Jay Gruden said Tuesday that linebacker Ryan Kerrigan (knee), wide receiver DeSean Jackson (shoulder), cornerback Bashaud Breeland (knee), wide receiver Jamison Crowder (hamstring), linebacker Will Compton (groin) and cornerback David Amerson (shoulder) will not suit up for the Redskins.

Tight end Logan Paulsen, meanwhile, missed practice once again Tuesday with a toe injury, and is seeing foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina for further evaluation.

Kerrigan, who is coming off a career-best 13.5 sacks, is returning from a left knee scope performed in May. He practiced fully on Tuesday.

Jackson sprained his right shoulder Aug. 6 when falling to the ground after making a deep catch during 1-on-1 drills, and although he has not practiced since, he has been working off to the side with the team's training staff.

Breeland sprained his MCL in practice July 31 and was given a timetable of 4 to 6 weeks to return to the field. He is expected to be available for the Redskins no sooner than their Week 2 matchup against the St. Louis Rams at FedExField.

Crowder has been held out of practice in recent days with a minor hamstring issue. The rookie out of Duke had been impressing up until his injury with his play at the receiver position.

Compton was held out of practice the past two days with a groin issue. His absence paves the way for more playing time for rookie linebacker Martrell Spaight.

Amerson, meanwhile, sprained his AC joint Aug. 3 and has not practiced since. He has been working off to the side with the team's training staff.
