Mackensie Alexander Runs Drills At Clemson's Pro Day

Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander and Mississippi State defensive end Chris Jones were among the players linked to the Redskins in mock drafts that participated in last week's pro days.

Mackensie Alexander's proclamation that he's "the best cornerback in this draft class" certainly turned a lot of heads at the NFL Combine, especially those in the media.

Here's a look at the Clemson's 2016 Pro Day that took place in Clemson, S.C.

But while the Clemson cornerback has the potential to indeed live out that personal expectation, he did not work out while in Indianapolis as he's still recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in the National Championship game on Jan. 11.

On Thursday, though, Alexander ran the 40-yard dash and also recorded a vertical jump at the school's pro day in front of representatives of all 32 NFL teams.

Alexander was told by some teams that he ran the 40-yard dash as quickly as 4.38 seconds while recording a 37.5-inch leap.

"My hands were a question, my speed was a question," Alexander said via CBSSports.com. "They definitely left with smiley faces."

While Alexander likely won't shy away from any sort of competition, one possible knock on the potential first-round pick is that he did not record an interception during his time at Clemson, a rarity for a starting cornerback, especially one that could go in the first 31 picks this year.

"I had some opportunities to come up with some picks in my career," Alexander said at the Combine. "I didn't come up with them at the end of the day. I'm taking it like a man, you know. But in a lot of situations, where I wasn't challenged very much. A lot of quarterbacks and teams stayed away from me. That was their game plan. That's it, really. That's how I answer that."

Also participating at the pro day was another expected first-round pick: Shaq Lawson.

Lawson ultimately decided to stand on a majority of his combine numbers (4.70-second 40-yard dash, 4.21-second 20-yard shuffle), but did participate in agility drills according to the school’s website along with working linebacker drills.

A 6-foot-3, 270 pounder, Lawson excelled in his lone season as a full-time starter in 2015, as he led the country in tackles for loss (24.5) while also accumulating 12.5 sacks.

"I love showing my athletic ability to each team," Lawson said. "There was a lot of doubt, but I gave it my all today and worked hard. I am ready for the next step and to find out who my new team is; where my new home is."

Mississippi State's Chris Jones, Dak Prescott Try To Impress
Deciding to stay with the numbers he posted at the NFL Combine last month, Jones, who entered the NFL Draft early, went through an individual workout while also recording a 29.5-inch vertical jump in front of NFL personnel from 30 NFL teams including the Washington Redskins.

Jones' jump was five inches better than what he recorded at the Combine.

A second-team All-American for ProFootballFocus during his junior season, Jones has been linked to the Redskins in some mock drafts.

He recorded 44 tackles along with four passes defensed and 2.5 sacks during the season.

"They wanted to see me work hard," Jones said of what the scouts wanted to see via HailState.com. "They want to see me finish every drill. They want to make sure I pay attention to detail, the smaller details when you're tired and overwork you, to see how you pay attention to the smaller things."

Prescott, meanwhile, went through a throwing session with receivers.

While he isn't expected to be a first-round pick, Prescott could be a mid-round pick with high upside.

During his career, Prescott, 6-foot-2, 226 pounds, totaled 9,376 yards and 70 touchdowns to just 23 interceptions while also rushing for more than 2,600 yards and an additional 44 touchdowns.

"I think I've helped myself," Prescott said of his draft stock. "From the Senior Bowl until now, including the combine, I think I've had a solid performance all the way through. I don't think I've done anything to hinder my grade or where I'll go in the draft. I'm pretty excited with where I'm going."

DeForest Buckner Shows Off Other Aspects At Pro Day
Buckner is in the discussion as being the top defensive player taken in this year's draft along with Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa and Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey.

Here's a look at the University of Alabama's 2016 Pro Day that took place in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

At 6-foot-7, 291 pounds, Buckner is one of the biggest prospects in this year's class, too.

But beyond size, the 2015 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and second-team All-American possesses quite a bit of talent as well, evident by his 83 tackles and 10.5 sacks.

At the school's pro day in Oregon on Thursday, Buckner would only show off his strength on the bench press, recording 21 bench press reps of 225 pounds.

"Today was really just showing that personally I think I am the best defensive lineman in this draft," Buckner said via *The Register-Guard*. "Really just coming back out here and reassuring them. … I got film to back it up. I played every position on the D-line throughout my career at Oregon. So wherever the coaches need me — outside, inside — I can fit."

Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. tried to show off his arm for scouts, completing 29-of-35 throws according to the school's website.

Adams only started one season for the Ducks, following in the footsteps of 2014 Heisman Trophy winner and current Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota.

But even though he doesn't have the same hype as his predecessor, Adams hopes to have some success in the NFL, too.

"I think I made every throw I needed to make," Adams said. "I missed on one of the real easy throws; Bralon [Addison] made me look good and caught it."
