Monday Training Camp Practice Notes

For the sixth time in nine training camp practices, the Redskins suited up in full upper-body pads, setting the tone for another physical workout.

The team moved full team drills from the near field to the back practice field, giving the grass surface a break from eight previous practices.  Fans were invited out onto the near field, to get a better view of the action.

With the first Redskins preseason game only three days away, the team largely focused on special teams and game situations in practice, running through down-and-distances called in from head coach Mike Shanahan in the backfield.

Quarterbacks Robert Griffin III, Rex Grossman and Kirk Cousins cycled through under center, giving equal opportunity to the first, second and third-string squads.  For the most part, the offensive units began with 2nd-and-10, and would try to convert a first down in two opportunities.

One of the standout performers for the first time in camp was wide receiver Joshua Morgan, who has battled through injury to get back on the practice field.

Morgan came up big late in practice, splitting double coverage with a leaping reception near the sidelines to move the chains.

Morgan said after practice that he was feeling healthy for the first time in nearly a year, and classified himself as about 95 percent health heading into Thursday's game.

His quarterback, Griffin III, addressed the media after practice, and said that he anticipates playing between six-12 snaps against the Bills on Thursday, or roughly one-to-two drives.

Griffin III said he feels comfortable in the Redskins' offense at this point, and commended the defense for challenging him to develop at an accelerated rate.

In injury news, Redskins right offensive guard Chris Chester has been diagnosed with a mild ankle sprain.  His availability for Thursday night was not immediately clear.

The next open Redskins practice will be Saturday, following the Redskins first preseason action in Buffalo.  There are only three open practices remaining.

The first official depth chart will be listed on Redskins.com later tonight.
