News & Notes: Brunell Returns to Practice

Quarterback Mark Brunell practiced on Thursday and remains listed as probable for Sunday's game against Philadelphia.

It was Brunell's first on-field work since last Saturday's win over the New York Giants. The veteran quarterback injured his knee on a sack early in the third quarter.

Brunell has said the range of motion in the knee has improved with each day.

"We have a great [athletic] training staff," Brunell said. "We've had the extra day of rest, so we had some time off. Getting a lot of rest, and trying to strengthen this leg, we'll see, but I'm pleased with where I'm at right now."

Meantime, cornerbacks Carlos Rogers and Shawn Springs sat out practice on Thursday. Rogers remains questionable for Sunday's game due to a biceps injury, while Springs is probable with a groin injury.

Defensive lineman Renaldo Wynn also missed practice due to a foot injury. He is listed as probable.

-- WILLIAMS ON ARRINGTON

During his Thursday media session, assistant head coach defense-Gregg Williams declined to comment on the recent article about LaVar Arrington's status with the Redskins.

Later, though, Williams said he was proud of how Arrington had played since returning from a knee injury that sidelined him most of the 2004 season.

"I've been very proud of how far he's come," Williams said. "The biggest part of it is, he has just had to get healthy. Since I've been here, it's been unfortunate that he's had the injury bug.

"When he's healthy, he can do some things penetration-wise--and run people down--that some of the other guys can't do. We just have to find ways to utilize them all, and he has been doing that since he's been healthy."

Asked how the defense would replace injured linebacker Chris Clemons, Williams replied: "What we'll do is, we'll rotate a lot of people. I don't ever talk about how much people are playing. If people want to know how much they play, come to the game."

Clemons was put on injured reserve on Tuesday with a knee ligament injury. He had served in third-down packages as a speed rusher at outside linebacker, replacing Arrington.

-- GIBBS ON ALL-WHITE UNIFORMS

Joe Gibbs hinted that it's the players who have decided to wear the white-on-white uniforms the last four games.

"Whatever they want to wear, we'll wear," Gibbs said, laughing. "I go with the players."

The Redskins are 4-0 since they decided to wear their white pants and white jerseys in Week 13 at St. Louis.

Since home teams determine which jerseys are worn on game day, the Eagles will have the final say on what the Redskins wear this Sunday.

If the Eagles decide to wear white jerseys in their season finale at Lincoln Financial Field, the Redskins will likely have to wear their burgundy jerseys.

-- FIVE IN A ROW

Not only does Joe Gibbs see a challenge in playing the Philadelphia Eagles, but he also sees a challenge in closing out the regular season with five wins in a row.

"That's extremely hard to do," Gibbs said. "It's rare stuff. It takes tremendous focus and hard work. You have to get yourself mentally right to play and win a fifth game in a row."

If Gibbs and the Redskins can accomplish that feat against the Eagles, it would be Washington's first series sweep of Philadelphia since 1988.
