News & Notes: Hall 'Doubtful' For Saints Game

DeAngelo Hall is "doubtful" for this Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, Jim Zorn said on Wednesday.

Hall remains slowed by a sprained knee that forced him to miss last week's game against Philadelphia.

"We're trying to increase his activity, and he's still not ready," Zorn said. "His knee was stiffening up a little bit [at Wednesday's practice], so we brought him off the field. We'll continue to work with him until we can get him back."

After practice, Hall was not optimistic about his chances of playing this weekend.

"I can't do a lot of the things that I normally do, especially as a defensive back," Hall said. "You need to be able to move quickly and not hesitate."

Hall missed six games in his rookie year due to a hip injury, but otherwise he has been injury-free in his NFL career.

His knee injury--and the necessary rehab--is uncharted territory for the sixth-year pro.

"I don't really know how it's supposed to respond," he said. "I'm playing it all by ear and taking the advice of the doctors."

It's a tough week for Hall to be out of the lineup.

In the undefeated Saints, the Redskins face the league's No. 1 offense and fourth-ranked passing offense led by quarterback Drew Brees, an MVP candidate.

If Hall is unable to play, then Carlos Rogers and Fred Smoot would start at cornerback for the second week in a row.

Justin Tryon, who recorded his first career interception vs. Philadelphia, would serve as a nickel corner.

-- HAYNESWORTH'S 'BACK'

Albert Haynesworth returned to practice--albeit on a limited basis--on Wednesday.

He has missed the last two games due to a sprained ankle.

"He back," Jim Zorn said. "He practiced in our team drills and looked good. He's working through strengthening his ankle but it looks like he's coming along fine."

Added Zorn: "In what I saw he had a little quickness. This is his first week back after an ankle that kept him out two games. We'll just monitor him."

-- ELOI SIGNED TO PRACTICE SQUAD

The Redskins signed wide receiver Keith Eloi to the practice squad on Wednesday, the team announced.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Eloi spent training camp with the Redskins, but he was released on Sept. 5 in the final roster cuts.

In four preseason contests with Washington, Eloi caught three passes for 38 yards.

Eloi, a native of Naples, Fla., played two years of college football at Nebraska-Omaha, where he caught 57 passes for 749 yards and five touchdowns.

-- REDSKINS IN THE RED ZONE

The Redskins' defense leads the NFL in red zone efficiency, allowing opponents only eight touchdowns in 25 trips, a 32.0 percent clip.

Last week in Philadelphia, the Redskins stopped the Eagles 3-of-4 times in the red zone, allowing a touchdown and three field goals.

The New Orleans Saints, this Sunday's opponent, is third in red zone offense, scoring 34 touchdowns in 53 attempts for a 64.2 percent clip.
