News & Notes: Rogers Slowed By Hamstring Again

Cornerback Carlos Rogers sat out Wednesday's indoor practice to rest a hamstring injury.

Rogers suffered the hamstring injury in last Sunday's game vs. Minnesota. He was just overcoming an injury to his other hamstring that sidelined him in Week 11 vs. Tennessee.

"It's early in the week, and my hamstring is real sore," Rogers said. "I'm just taking it day to day."

Asked if Rogers would be able to play on Sunday against the New York Giants, head coach Mike Shanahan replied: "I really don't know. I'm not sure if I'd feel quite as good [about Rogers] as last week, but I still think there's a chance."

If Rogers is unable to play, then Phillip Buchanon would likely draw the starting assignment opposite DeAngelo Hall.

Buchanon had two pass break-ups in the Vikings game.

"Phillip has played pretty well, the times he has been in," Rogers said. "Everybody gets passes caught on them, but he's has some turnovers and knocked some balls out. You don't see him giving up touchdowns. Jumping into the starting lineup, that's good."

The Redskins hosted practice at an indoor facility for the third time this season due to a steady rainfall in Ashburn, Va.

-- MCNABB STEPS UP IN DECEMBER

In years past, December has been Donovan McNabb's time to shine.

Since 2000, McNabb has posted a remarkable 22-8 record in December (including one playoff win) -- all as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.

With the Redskins struggling at 5-6 and postseason hopes dimming, McNabb knows he must assert himself on the field as the team heads into the stretch run.

"You spend more time seeing different things, communicating as well as being out on the practice field with a whole different attitude that everyone gets a chance to see that," he said. "It's contagious, I feel. Someone has to step up and do something different.

"If it's being more vocal, whatever it may be, but this is definitely the time where you have to really bring it out."

-- WILLIAMS vs. DAVIS

With Ryan Torain still sidelined with a hamstring injury, Mike Shanahan was asked if running backs Keiland Williams and James Davis are competing for the Redskins' starting job.

"Both of them are trying to prove to us who is the best player," Shanahan replied. "We have a chance to evaluate that in practice. Keiland's got a little bit of playing experience over Davis, but we like what we see and hopefully it carries over into games."

Williams started last Sunday's game vs. Minnesota, but he shared carries with Davis.

Williams had three carries for five yards and caught four passes for 21 yards. Davis had six carries for 11 yards and caught one pass for four yards.
