News & Notes: Sellers Is Questionable

Mike Sellers sat out practice on Wednesday and is listed as questionable on the team's injury report, but the burly H-back expects to be able to play in this Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Sellers missed last week's game against San Diego due to a rib injury.

"I feel good enough to play," Sellers said. "I will strap it up and see what I can do for this team."

Despite missing practice, Sellers was able to take part in drills and do some light work, according to head coach Joe Gibbs.

The 6-3, 278-pound Sellers has been a surprise contributor in the passing game this season, logging 10 catches for 65 yards and five touchdowns. He also has one rushing touchdown.

Meantime, running back Ladell Betts also missed practice on Wednesday and is listed as questionable for the Rams game. Betts has missed the last two games with a knee injury.

Wide receiver James Thrash is listed as doubtful as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Left tackle Chris Samuels sat out Wednesday's practice to rest a knee injury, but he is listed as probable and expected to play.

-- GRIFFIN PROBABLE

Cornelius Griffin missed practice on Wednesday as he continues to rest his hip injury. He is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Asked on Wednesday if he expected to play against the Rams, Griffin replied: "That's the plan."

Griffin returned to the lineup last Sunday vs. the Chargers after missing three games.

His return is key since the Redskins are expected to be without defensive tackle Joe Salave'a, who has a lingering foot injury. Salav'ea is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Rams.

-- BACK WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Ray Brown has played in the NFL so long that he used to play for the St. Louis Cardinals. To put that into perspective: the Cardinals left St. Louis for Arizona in 1988.

On Wednesday, Brown reminisced about his rookie season in St. Louis. He was an eight-round draft selection by the Cardinals in 1986.

"My roommate told me I was drafted," he said. "I was coming from class and he said the coaches called to tell me I had been drafted. I was kind of shocked. I didn't anticipate it, but it was truly a blessing. Now I'm still here, going back to St. Louis for another ballgame.

"I was overwhelmed by it all. I was a small-town kid and a small-college kid. It took me a couple practices to realize that it's a job and you had better snap out of it and stop being in awe of everything."

Now playing in his 20th NFL season, Brown has served as a reserve offensive lineman this season. He saw his most extensive playing time in Week 8, replacing Chris Samuels at left tackle mid-game due to injury.

Following last Sunday's 23-17 loss to the San Diego Chargers, Brown stepped up and addressed the locker room in the moments after the game.

Brown discussed his speech at length on Wednesday.

"Since it was such a tough loss, I sensed that maybe we could go the other way with this," he said. "I wanted them to know that we still have an opportunity to do something. I just thought I could say something or do something to help this team. I think a lot of guys feel that way: they want to say something or do something to help this football team.

"That's how we're going to make it: Guys making it very personal about what they can bring to this team to help us win. Will we respond? We know the Rams aren't going to cooperate, lie down and say, 'Here you can have it.' We have to go and fight for it."

-- GIBBS ON THE COLTS' QUEST

Can the Indianapolis Colts go undefeated? Back in 1991, Joe Gibbs' Redskins were faced with similar questions. That team started out 11-0, just like the 2005 Colts, but lost the next game to the Dallas Cowboys 24-21.

Going undefeated is "certainly a different kind of pressure that you have to live up to," Gibbs said on Wednesday. "Every week, the pressure starts mounting. The other team says, 'We have to be the ones here [to beat them].'

"We were watching the Colts on film as one of the films we broke down for the Rams game. They are a machine right now. They're actually getting things that most people up here don't get. People are playing them are so afraid of the passing game that they're playing them with a six-man box. That opens up the run.

"Someone is going to have to play awfully good to beat them. They're impressive."
