News & Notes: Springs Listed As Doubtful

Shawn Springs is listed as doubtful heading into Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The veteran cornerback sat out Wednesday's practice, but did some light running on the side as he continues to recover from abdominal surgery.

In brief comments to reporters after practice, Springs said he was "feeling better," but he declined to discuss his playing status.

Said Joe Gibbs: "I feel like Shawn is making great progress [in his rehab]. As far as I can tell, he looks real good running. We'll just have to see. Right now, the medical team thinks he shouldn't practice."

If Springs is unable to play, the Redskins would likely go into the Dallas game with Carlos Rogers and Kenny Wright starting at cornerback. Mike Rumph and Ade Jimoh would likely serve in nickel and dime packages.

Dallas has a pair of dynamic wide receivers in Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn. They combined for 10 catches, 161 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' 24-17 loss to Jacksonville last week.

"I do expect them to come after us," Rumph said. "Everyone sees that we have Shawn out and they think it's a weakness. They want to try and expose us. We just have to go out there and compete and show that it's not a weakness."

Added Carlos Rogers: "Even when Shawn is in, I look for them to go after me regardless--because I am the younger player. I still have to prove that I can stop whatever they throw at me. If they do, I'll be ready for it. That is what I look for."

#### -- REDSKINS RE-SIGN BURNS; PRIOLEAU TO IR

The Redskins have re-signed safety Curry Burns to the roster, the team announced on Wednesday. Burns, 6-0 and 202 pounds, spent the 2005 season on the Redskins' practice squad. He was released by the club on Sept. 2, 2006, in the last round of roster cuts.

Burns takes the roster spot of safety Pierson Prioleau, who was placed on injured reserve. Prioleau suffered a knee ligament injury on the opening kickoff of last Monday night's game.

"Curry is a guy who has been around us and been around [safeties coach] Steve Jackson," Joe Gibbs said. "He understands our scheme. He was one of those guys we hated to let go. He's somebody we're not afraid of playing. He can play special teams, too."

Burns last played in an NFL game in 2004, when he was with the New York Giants. He played in eight games that year, with two starts.

Said Burns: "It's a big responsibility replacing Pierson. He is a vocal leader and spiritual leader out there on the field. The coaches do a good job getting everyone prepared. It'll be a big challenge."

The Redskins continue to work out prospective defensive backs, however. After Wednesday's practice, assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams, Jackson and team officials monitored a workout of a veteran player on the Redskins Park fields.

-- WYNN'S BACK

Defensive end Renaldo Wynn returned to practice on Wednesday. He sat out last Monday's season opener due to an ankle injury.

Wynn is officially listed as probable for Sunday's game.

Asked if he expected to play on Sunday in Dallas, Wynn replied: "That's my plan. I still have to work with coaches and trainers, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm planning to be out there."

Tight end Christian Fauria is also listed as probable with a lower leg injury.
