The Redskins have signed free agent defensive lineman Greg Peterson, the team announced on Thursday.

Peterson, a fourth-year player, adds another experienced defensive lineman to the mix. Earlier this week, the team signed nose tackle Anthony Bryant.

Peterson, 6-5 and 315 pounds, was with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He spent his first two NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For his career, Peterson has played in 14 games, and has totaled 20 tackles (18 solo), 1.5 sacks, one fumble recovery and one pass defended.

He entered the NFL as a 2007 fifth-round draft pick (141st overall) by the Buccaneers. He was drafted by general manager Bruce Allen, who was with the Buccaneers at the time.

Peterson played college football at North Carolina Central, where he appeared in 24 games in two seasons and totaled 104 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 25.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two passes defensed and one interception.

At North Carolina Central, Peterson earned Black College All-American honors and was a first-team All-Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association honoree.

Peterson is a native of Kenansville, N.C.
