Redskins Agree to Terms With Fred Davis

The Washington Redskins announced July 19 that they have agreed to terms with second-round selection Fred Davis, the 48th overall choice in the 2008 NFL Draft. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The Redskins have now signed or agreed to terms with all 10 of their draft picks prior to the start of training camp.

In addition, the Redskins released tight end Tyler Ecker.

While at the University of Southern California, Davis started 28 of 48 games in which he played, and set school records for tight ends with 117 receptions for 1,408 yards and 13 touchdowns.

As a senior in 2007, the Toledo, Ohio, native hauled in a team-leading 62 catches for 881 yards (14.2 avg.) and eight touchdowns, becoming the first Trojan tight end to lead the team in receptions since Joe Cormier in 1985.

Davis earned the John Mackey Award honoring the nation's most outstanding tight end, as well as first-team All-America and All-Pac-10 recognition.

In addition, Davis was named USC's co-Most Valuable Player, along with defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, who was chosen seventh overall by New Orleans in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Davis started 10 of 13 games as a junior and earned second team All-Pac-10 accolades after catching 38 passes for 352 yards 9.2 (avg.) and three touchdowns. That followed a sophomore campaign that saw him participate in all 13 games, including three starts.

Davis was an All-American wide receiver at Toledo's Rogers High school, where he also played running back, quarterback and safety.

After graduating early and enrolling at USC in the spring of 2004, Davis played wide receiver and tight end in the fall for a Trojan squad that won the NCAA national championship. Overall, in Davis four seasons, Southern California accumulated a 46-5 record.

The 6-foot-4, 247-pound Davis was born Jan. 15, 1986 in Toledo.

Ecker was a 2007 seventh-round draft pick and spent all of last season on injured reserve with a groin injury.
