OTHER SIGNIFICANT CHANGES

Redskins:

  • With quarterback Case Keenum still in the concussion protocol, rookie Dwayne Haskins could start his first NFL game on Sunday. Haskins has played in portions of two games this season and has begun to receive more first-team reps in practice.
  • During the Vikings game, Adrian Peterson moved up to sixth all-time on the NFL's rush list, passing Jerome Bettis and LaDainian Tomlinson. Peterson has rushed for over 75 yards in three consecutive games with the running game continuing to be a focal point.
  • In each of the past three games, the Redskins defense has given up fewer than 20 points. A big part of that has been their ability to stop the run, with the unit not allowing a 100-yard rusher since Ezekiel Elliott went for 111 yards on the ground in Week 2.

Bills:

  • The Bills have a revamped receiving corps this season, signing free agents John Brown and Cole Beasley in the offseason. Brown is one of only two receivers in the NFL to have at least five catches in every game this year.
  • Buffalo also has a new-look running game led by 15-year NFL veteran Frank Gore and third-round rookie Devin Singletary. Gore and Singletary have formed a formidable one-two punch for the Bills.

STORYLINES/THINGS TO WATCH

  • Redskins defense facing a mobile quarterback -- At the halfway point of the season, the Redskins have matched up with several mobile quarterbacks. That trend will continue Sunday with Buffalo's Josh Allen, who ranks fourth in the NFL among quarterbacks with 235 rushing yards -- the most of any signal caller the Redskins have played this season.
  • Veteran running backs lead the way -- Sunday will be a matchup between two of the NFL's premier veteran running backs in Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson. Gore, who ranks 4th all-time in rushing yards, and Peterson, who just moved up to 6th all-time on that same list, are each leading their respective teams in rushing yards.
  • Converting red zone opportunities -- Against the Vikings in Week 8, the Redskins had three red zone opportunities but settled for three field goals. Situational football has been an area of focus for the Redskins this week heading into a hostile environment on the road.
  • Battle of field position -- Tress Way has been one of the biggest bright spots for the Redskins so far. Way is averaging a career-high 50.2 yards per punt, helping to flip the field for the Redskins several times this season. Playing in cold and potentially rainy conditions in Buffalo means he'll likely need to do more of that Sunday.

INTRIGUING MATCHUPS

  • Terry McLaurin vs. Tre'Davious White -- Emerging as the Redskins top weapon, McLaurin often draws the assignment of the opposing team's best corner. White, out of LSU, is known for being extremely physical and will pose a new challenge for the rookie wide receiver.
  • Cole Beasley vs. Redskins cornerbacks -- Cole Beasley knows the Redskins well, having played them twice a year in each of the previous seven seasons as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. He's now caught 33 passes in seven games with the Bills, and he'll look to continue his production against a secondary dealing with several injuries.
  • Devin Singletary vs. Redskins linebackers -- When healthy, Singletary has provided a nice complement to Frank Gore, primarily in third down situations. Playing a career-high 68 percent of snaps last week, the rookie has served as a safety net for Josh Allen. The linebacker tandem of Cole Holcomb and Jon Bostic will need to maintain their gaps in the run game but also communicate effectively when Singletary is used as a receiver.
  • Redskins interior defensive linemen vs. Bills offensive line -- Similar to much of the Bills offense, the offensive line has several new pieces this season, namely center Mitch Morse and offensive tackle Cody Ford. Over the past several games, the Redskins defensive line has excelled by bottling up opposing running backs and forcing pressure up the middle. The trio of Matt Ioannidis, Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne will look to set the tone early against the NFL's eighth-ranked rushing offense (130.4 yards per game).
