Earlier this year, the Redskins introduced a new season-ticket benefit program called "Redskins Gold". The package, which lasts through the regular season, includes a variety of perks for season-ticket holders such as discounts on food and beverage items at concession stands and expedited entry into games.

Redskins Gold also offers several exclusive events for those enrolled, such as the kickoff party that took place before the team's preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 29. Fans attending the event, which was held at the Bud Light Party Pavilion at FedExField, enjoyed complimentary dinner, drinks, the opportunity to win autographed memorabilia and even the surprise chance to mingle with some of the Redskins' starters.

"This is so cool. I had no clue they were going to be here. My wife tapped me on the shoulder and I thought I was dreaming," said Derrick Banks, a 39-year-old from Indian Head, Maryland, whose family has owned season tickets for the past seven years. "It was really cool to see all the guys that we'll be watching Sunday right next to you."

Chris Malone, an 82-year-old from Rockville and a season-ticket holder since 1994, also approved of the exclusive player access.

"I'm glad to see this for the season ticket holders," he said. "Everybody's had a wonderful time."

For the players, this was a wildly different experience from their normal pregame routine. It's also one they welcomed and enjoyed before watching their teammates take the field against the Ravens.

"This was fun," veteran corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie said. "Me and [Quinton Dunbar] were playing cornhole, just being us. It's weird being at the stadium out here with the fans, but we don't get to do this stuff often. We all had fun."

More specifically, the event provided a platform for increased player-fan interaction -- something running back Chris Thompson views as integral to the game. "For us to be able to interact with them right now, it's pretty cool. This is really what it's all about."
