The reason why Redskins players are at their peak physical condition – outside of the hard work they put in – is because they have a top-notch training staff that makes sure they're ready for whatever comes their way during the regular season.

Dr. James Andrews was recently given the Outstanding NFL Team Physician of the Year Jerry "Hawk" Rhea Award at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The award is given to the NFL team physician who has made the greatest contributions to both the NFL and profession of athletic training.

Dr. Andrews was presented the award by Redskins head athletic trainer Larry Hess.

Also on hand to share in this proud moment with Dr. Andrews was none other than Redskins owner Dan Snyder.

Since 1998, the award has been presented by PFATS (Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society) at the Combine. The award is named for Jerry Rhea, who served as the head athletic trainer for the Atlanta Falcons from 1969-1994.

Ironically enough, the very first award was given to a former member of the Redskins, Dr. Don Knowlan, who served as Washington's team physician for more than 25 years.
