Redskins Re-sign Rock Cartwright

The Washington Redskins announced March 8 that they have re-signed running back Rock Cartwright. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Cartwright, 5-8, 218 pounds, spent all six seasons of his NFL career with the Redskins.

He was a key contributor on special teams during the 2007 season, recording 52 kickoff returns for 1,339 yards (25.8 avg.) and finished second on the team with 36 special teams tackles after playing in 15 regular season games and one playoff contest.

Cartwright had his best statistical season in 2006. He set a new Redskins franchise record for the most kickoff return yards in a single season with 64 total returns for 1,541 yards, which bested Brian Mitchell's previous team mark of 1,478 set in 1994.

In 2006, he returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown at Dallas (9/17/06). The 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the third longest in team history.

For his career, Cartwright has played in 91 games with three starts, recording 146 rushing attempts for 647 yards, six touchdowns, 31 receptions for 320 yards and one touchdown. In addition, he has returned 132 kickoffs for 3,157 yards and one touchdown.

A former Kansas State Wildcat, Cartwright earned All-Big 12 Conference honorable mention as a senior.

He also has made several contributions in the community during his career including his participation in the Harvest Feast in 2007 where he distributed Thanksgiving food baskets at FedExField for Prince George's County residents in need.
