Redskins' Schedule Includes Thursday Nighter At FedExField

The NFL has released the 2007 regular season schedule and the Redskins now know the opponents they will play each week next season.

A survey of the schedule reveals three nationally televised games: a Monday nighter on Week 2 at Philadelphia, a Thursday night game on Week 14 against Chicago at FedExField and a Sunday night matchup on Week 15 at the New York Giants.

Three of the Redskins' first four games are at home, which should give the team a chance to get off to a strong start.

Also, the Redskins bye week arrives early--it is scheduled for Week 4.

In Week 1, the Redskins host the Miami Dolphins at FedExField at 1 p.m. ET. It's the first time the two teams have played since the 2003 season, when the Dolphins won in Miami 24-23. The Redskins and Dolphins also squared off in Super Bowls VII and XVII.

Since Joe Gibbs returned in 2004, the Redskins have struggled against the AFC, recording a 2-10 record the last three seasons. Last year, the Redskins were 2-2 against the AFC South.

For the third year in a row, Washington will play a nationally televised game on Week 2. The Redskins travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in a Monday Night matchup at Lincoln Financial Field. The game, at 8:30 p.m. ET, will be televised on ESPN.

Last year, the Redskins were a disappointing 1-5 against the NFC East. They will look to improve on that mark against the Eagles and against the New York Giants on Week 3 at FedExField. Kickoff is 4:15 p.m. ET.

After the Redskins' bye week, the Redskins host the Detroit Lions on Week 5 at FedExField, with a 1 p.m. ET kickoff. Then they travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers at historic Lambeau Field. It's the Redskins first visit to Green Bay since 2002, when they lost to the Packers 30-9.

The Redskins return to FedExField in Week 7 to host the Arizona Cardinals at 1 p.m. ET. The Cardinals, originally an NFC East team before switching to the NFC West in 2002, have not played at FedExField since the Redskins' 2002 season opener.

Washington travels to play a pair of AFC opponents in the next two weeks. The Redskins take on the New England Patriots in Week 8 at Foxboro, Mass., in a 4:15 p.m. ET kickoff. The following week, the Redskins take on the New York Jets, in a 1 p.m. ET kickoff, at the Meadowlands.

The Redskins return to NFC East play in Week 10 with a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles at FedExField. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

The NFL's flexible scheduling begins on Week 11. For Weeks 11-17, the kickoff times are listed as 1 p.m. ET unless it is a national game.

Should the NFL deem a Redskins game in Weeks 11-17 to be a marquee matchup, then the kickoff will be moved to 8:15 p.m. ET on Sunday night. If that happens, then the game will be broadcast on NBC.

On Week 11, the Redskins are scheduled to return to Texas Stadium to take on the Dallas Cowboys in a 1 p.m. ET kickoff. The Redskins and Cowboys, one of the NFL's top rivalries, split their season series last year.

The Redskins close out November in Tampa Bay with a 1 p.m. ET game against the Buccaneers. It's the fourth year in a row that the the Redskins and Bucs will play in the regular season--and the third year in a row that the two teams will play in Tampa Bay.

The Redskins begin their December strecth run at home against the Buffalo Bills in Week 13. Kickoff is 1 p.m. The last time Washington and Buffalo played was in 2003, when the Bills prevailed at Ralph Wilson Stadium by a 24-7 score.

It will also be the first chance that new Redskins linebacker London Fletcher and new Bills left guard Derrick Dockery will have to go against their former teams.

Four days later, in a Thursday Night game at FedExField, the Redskins host the NFC Champion Chicago Bears. Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on the NFL Network. (This game is not subject to the NFL's flexible scheduling since it is broadcast on NFL Network.)

It's the Redskins' first Thursday Night game since the 2003 regular-season opener against the New York Jets at FedExField.

One of the league's oldest rivalries, the Redskins and Bears last played in the 2005 season opener at FedExField. The Redskins won 9-7, but both teams went on to make the playoffs.

The Redskins return to the Meadowlands the following week in a nationally televised, Sunday Night matchup against the New York Giants. Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on NBC.

In Week 16, the Redskins wrap up the road portion of their regular-season schedule when they travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings at 1 p.m. ET. It's the Redskins' first visit to Minnesota since 1998.

The Redskins close out the regular season against their long-time rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, at FedExField. Kickoff is 1 p.m. ET.

The regular season officially kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 6 with the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts hosting the New Orleans Saints at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

The other opening weekend national games are: Chicago at San Diego on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 4:15 p.m. ET; the New York Giants at Dallas that evening at 8:15 p.m. ET; Baltimore at Cincinnati on Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. ET; and Arizona at San Francisco that evening at 10:15 p.m. ET.

On Thanksgiving, the three NFL games on that special occasion will be Green Bay at Detroit (12:30 p.m. ET), the New York Jets at Dallas (4:15 p.m. ET) and Indianapolis at Atlanta (8:15 p.m. ET).

The Redskins open their preseason schedule at Tennessee on Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. ET. That game will be televised nationally on the NFL Network.

The remaining preseason opponents are the Pittsburgh Steelers (at FedExField, Aug. 18, 8 p.m. ET), Baltimore Ravens (at FedExField, Aug. 25, 8 p.m. ET) and at Jacksonville (Aug. 30, 7:30 p.m. ET).
