The Washington Redskins shifted their draft focus to the secondary with the first of two seventh-round picks Saturday.
With the 227th-overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, the organization went with small-school defensive back Jimmy Moreland, who becomes the first James Madison player drafted since 2013.
Moreland was a durable and reliable ball hawk over his four-year career during which he made 41 starts. He's the school's all-time leader with 18 interceptions -- 13 of which came over the past two seasons -- and returned a third of those interceptions for touchdowns. Moreland was recognized as a consensus FCS All-American cornerback last season, totaling 56 tackles (7.5 for loss), 10 pass breakups and five interceptions.
The Redskins have now made three offseason additions in the secondary -- two of which came via free agency (All-Pro safety Landon Collins and veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie) and the latest coming with the team's second-to-last 2019 draft pick.
Moreland is the ninth member of the Redskins' 2019 draft class, joining quarterback Dwayne Haskins (No. 15), edge defender Montez Sweat (No. 26) and wide receiver Terry McLaurin (No. 76), among others. See all of the Redskins' picks, here.
