Redskins Select Moore In Sixth Round

The Washington Redskins announced April 27 that they have selected safety Kareem Moore in the sixth-round (180th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft.

This selection represents the Redskins seventh pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, and their second resulting from a trade with the St. Louis Rams.

The Redskins acquired a pair of sixth-round selections (168th and 180th overall) from the Rams for their fifth-round selection (157th overall) and seventh-round selection (228th overall).

Moore (5-11, 213 pounds) finished his collegiate career with 181 tackles (114 solo), 15 pass deflections and five interceptions. His 149 yards gained on interception returns in 2007 broke the school single season record held since 1981.

In 21 games at Nicholls State, Moore started 17 contests and recorded 141 tackles (81 solo), six pass deflections and five interceptions for 166 return yards and two touchdowns.

Moore attended Okolona High School in Mississippi before signing with the University of Mississippi. After seeing limited playing time in 2004, the Academic Honor Roll selection transferred to Itawamba Community College in 2005 and then moved to McNeese State.

He landed at Nicholls State in 2006 and earned Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year honors as a junior.

He capped his college career by winning the league's Defensive Player of the Year award as a senior.
