With Kareem Moore and Mike Sellers nursing injuries, the Redskins fortified depth at safety and fullback with the signing of Tyrone Carter and Carey Davis on Monday.

Carter, a 10-year veteran safety, takes the roster spot of Mike Furrey, who is on injured reserve. Davis, a third-year fullback, takes the roster spot of linebacker Chris Draft, who was released.

Both Carter and Davis were at Redskins Park on Monday and participated in their first Redskins practice.

Moore and Sellers both suffered knee injuries in last Saturday's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. Their status for this week's preseason game against the New York Jets is uncertain.

Carter, 5-9 and 195 pounds, has played in 151 games, with 51 starts. He has played for the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2004 and has also had stints with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings.

For his career, Carter has posted 409 tackles, 5.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles and nine interceptions, including five in the last two years. He has returned two interceptions for touchdowns.

Carter played college football at Minnesota. He is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Davis, 5-10 and 225 pounds, played for the Steelers the last three seasons. He played in 36 games, with 10 starts, in that span.

For his career, Davis has 31 carries for 118 yards and 17 catches for 76 yards.

Davis entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Indianapolis Colts. He also had stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins before joining the Steelers in 2006.

Davis played college football at Illinois. He is a native of St. Louis.

Draft, a 12-year veteran, joined the Redskins last May. He was working with the second- and third-team defense in training camp and preseason.
