Redskins Sign DE Evans, CB Wright

The Washington Redskins announced April 3 they have signed defensive lineman Demetric Evans and defensive back Kenny Wright.

Evans, 6-3 and 285 pounds, has been a strong contributor to the Redskins defensive line since signing with the team in 2004. He originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2001.

During his career, Evans has appeared in 48 games with 10 starts and recorded 105 tackles (56 solo), 6.5 sacks, and recovered and forced one fumble. Three of his 6.5 sacks came during the 2005 season. Evans had a standout career at the University of Georgia.

Wright, 6-1 and 207 pounds, has played in 110 games with 47 starts over his seven-year NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings.

During that span Wright has tallied 344 tackles (259 solo), six interceptions and three sacks. Wright spent last season with Jacksonville, appearing and starting in all 16 games at right cornerback. He finished the year with 78 total tackles (50 solo), six pass deflections and two interceptions.

Wright began his NFL career as a fourth round draft choice (120th overall) by the Minnesota Vikings in the 1999 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons in Minnesota before being signed off waivers by Houston in 2002. After three seasons with the Texans he signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Jaguars prior to the 2005 season.

Wright spent his college days playing at Northwestern State where he earned honorable mention All-Southland Conference honors twice and was a three year letterman after transferring from Arkansas. Wright is a native of Ruston, La., where he attended Ruston High School.
