Redskins Take a Look At NFL Draft Hopefuls

A year ago, Alex Buzbee, Sam Hollenbach and Marcus Mason arrived at Redskins Park hoping to fulfill an NFL dream.

First they had to stand out from the crowd of about 70 local college players working out for coaches and scouts.

Buzbee, Hollenbach and Mason did enough to warrant an invite to training camp. From there, they earned a place on the Redskins' roster and practice squad last season.

On Friday, the next batch of NFL hopefuls--68 in all--arrived at Redskins Park.

The workout was a chance for local college players to be evaluated by the Redskins' coaches and scouts in an NFL surrounding.

To attend, the player had to be draft eligible and either played college or high school football in the Washington, D.C. region.

The bulk of players came from local colleges, such as Maryland, Howard, Bowie State and Georgetown. Players from Syracuse, Boston College, Delaware, North Carolina and Virginia Tech were also on hand.

Perhaps the top prospect in attendance was Maryland linebacker Erin Henderson, the brother of Minnesota Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson (also a Maryland grad).

Henderson is expected to be a second- or third-round pick in the April 26-27 NFL Draft.

He completed his junior season at Maryland last year and recorded 133 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, one sack, one interception and four fumble recoveries.

Maryland running back Keon Lattimore and Richmond wide receiver Arman Shields were also in attendance. Lattimore has been projected as a fifth-round draft pick, while Shields is thought to be a sixth-rounder.
