With the first round of roster cuts due at 4 p.m. to the NFL league offices, the Washington Redskins have made the following moves to get down to the required 75-man roster.

The Redskins traded cornerback Kevin Barnes to the Detroit Lions for a conditional draft pick.

The Redskins have waived the following players:

Antwon Bailey RB Syracuse
Lennon Creer RB Louisiana Tech
Chris Campbell  OL Eastern Illinois
Sam Kirkland WR Kent State
Monte Lewis LB Jacksonville State
Nick Martinez OL Oklahoma State
Beau Reliford TE Florida State
Jonathan Crompton QB Tennessee
Morgan Trent (Injured) CB Michigan
Lance Lewis (Injured) WR East Carolina

The Redskins signed Jonathan Crompton to the team's practice squad last season after he was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Although he was never activated, Crompton served as the team's pseudo-third-string quarterback, making road trips and running the practice squad offense in practice.

Bailey, Creer, Kirkland, Lewis, Martinez, Reliford and Lewis were undrafted rookie free agents, signed to the 90-man roster after this spring's rookie minicamp.

Trent was originally claimed off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars, taking the roster spot of waived cornerback Leigh Torrence.

Campbell was signed as an injury replacement for rookie wide receiver Darius Hanks.

The Redskins have terminated the following vested veterans:

James Lee OL S. Carolina State
Neil Rackers K Illinois
Tony Moll OL Nevada

Lee was signed in early April to add depth at the offensive tackle position.  He played under Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris in Tampa Bay, but played only sparingly this preseason for the Redskins.

Rackers was signed as roster competition at placekicker, challenging fourth-year kicker Graham Gano for the starting job.  Head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed the move this afternoon, and said that the fourth preseason game was not needed to decide the competition, leading to his departure.

Moll was signed as an injury replacement for linebacker Jonathan Goff, and was intended to bring depth to the interior offensive line.

The Redskins have moved the following players from Active PUP to Reserve/PUP:

Jammal Brown    OL Oklahoma

As a member of the Physically Unable to Perform list, Brown will be ineligible to join the Redskins active roster until Week 6, upon which time he can be activated, traded, released or placed on season-ending Injured Reserve.

The team has until 9 p.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 31 to trim to the roster to 53 players.
