Rockville High School Football Coach Honored

The Washington Redskins announced today that head football coach Kevin Bernot of Rockville High School in Rockville, Md., has been named Redskins High School Coach of the Week for the week of November 9, 2009.

The Redskins High School Coach of the Week program is designed to recognize and reward excellence in high school football coaching.

This season marks Coach Bernot's first season as the head coach at Rockville High School. Bernot motivates his players by emphasizing the importance of academics and a strong work ethic. He lets his student-athletes know that it's equally important to give 100 percent in the classroom as it is on the football field.

Bernot also monitors his student-athletes class work by holding a study hall every day so that his student-athletes can focus on their academics prior to football practice.

Off the field, Bernot conducts a summer youth football camp for local elementary and middle school students. He also attends practices for the local area youth football teams and assists in teaching children fundamental football skills.

Bernot has also been instrumental in implementing a parent support group that hosts game day meals and offer encouragement and motivation for their children.

"Coach Bernot has done an outstanding job both on and off the field with his players. He has high standards and the team has responded to his leadership. The school is pleased that he has led the team to its first home game appearance in the State Playoffs" says Rockville Athletic Director Paul Fahrner.

The playoff bound Rams are currently 8-2 and ranked 18th in the Maxpreps Division 2A poll for the state of Maryland.

Each week during the 2009 high school football season, the Redskins will select one area high school head coach as the Redskins High School Coach of the Week. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes, his overall community involvement and overall team performance and record.

Each of the coaches chosen throughout the high school season will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Youth Football Fund to their football program and a framed certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Redskins head coach Jim Zorn.
