Shanahan Focused On Panthers, Not Sandy

While the destruction of hurricane Sandy has plagued the minds of most in the mid-Atlantic region, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has worked diligently to ensure that his team is ready for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.

With players reporting to Redskins Park early on Monday morning and enjoying a day off Tuesday, Shanahan did not anticipate any issues with the team's normal preparation schedule.

"We had the players come in at the normal time [Monday] and went through our normal routine, except that we cut it a little bit shorter for obvious reasons," Shanahan told the media on Monday.  "Our plan is to practice like we normally would on a Wednesday, unless there's some sort of setback in between."

As of the close of business on Tuesday afternoon, the storm bands have largely left the Washington D.C.-area, leaving behind lots of rain but minimal damage

If the practice fields are too wet to use, the team has the option of moving practices indoors until the storm has completely subsided.

That is, if the bubble is still inflated, as Shanahan joked on Monday.

"I'm hoping that when I come to work tomorrow morning, it's still up," he said with a chuckle. "With 70 mile-per-hour winds, I'm just hoping it's still there when I wake up and it's not somewhere on [highway] 267."

While the winds and rough surf from hurricane Sandy battered the coast of North Carolina over the weekend, the Panthers in Charlotte were spared the ill effects of the weather.

Both teams currently anticipate normal practice schedules in preparation for this Sunday's home game at FedExField.

The current weekend forecast for Landover, Md. shows clear, sunny skies on Sunday, with a high of 56 degrees and zero percent chance of rain.
