Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan was aware of the numbers heading into today's game.

An NFL-worst eight-game losing streak at FedExField, dating back to Week 2 of the 2011 regular season.  Being out-scored 168-229 at home over that stretch, including 26-33 against the Vikings to close out last season.

But that doesn't mean he needed to remind his players to win at home--that's always been the goal.

"We don't talk about those types of things.  I've never talked about that," he told the media following Sunday's 38-26 victory at FedExField.  "You focus on getting the job done, having good practices, doing the little things the right way and trying to finish a game.

"That's what we've been focusing on."

Some of those areas included third-down conversions, where the offense went one-for-nine last week and allowed the Falcons to convert 58 percent on defense.

This week, the offense converted 50 percent on third and fourth downs, staying perfect on fourth downs this season.  The defense allowed eight-for-17 on third down conversions, but most came after the offense built a comfortable lead.

Another area of improvement was the red zone defense, which held the Vikings to field goals on each of the first three possessions, keeping them out of the end zone on nine-straight red zone plays.

"I was proud of our guys. The first couple drives we couldn't get anything going and they did a great job," Shanahan said.  "Instead of nine points, it could have been 21 points and all of a sudden it's pretty hard to catch up."

"You have to go through some adversity at times and you have to keep your composure there."

The Redskins will look to build the first winning streak of the season next week on the road against the Giants. 

In order to accomplish that, Shanahan is already compiling a list of areas to address in practice.

"We talk about the things we do poorly and what separates the good teams from the average teams and the way we can improve in that area."
