Shanahan: We Expect To Win, Make Playoffs

With offseason additions at quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, and improved depth along the offensive line, coordinator Kyle Shanahan has reason to believe his squad's projections will equal production in 2012.

"We don't go into a season not expecting to making the playoffs," he told the media on the final day of mini-camp.  "My expectation is to win. That's why we came here."

Since joining the Redskins coaching staff in 2010, Kyle Shanahan has worked to inject youth into the oldest roster in the NFL, implement a new playbook, and deliver the team's first winning season since 2007.

Armed with an offensive lineup that averages just 24 years, 11 months and six days old, Shanahan now expects the Redskins to make the jump in the win column.

"We want a chance to compete every year, and it's been disappointing for us that we haven't been able to," he explained.  "I believe in our guys.  I know our guys believe in ourselves and we expect to come in and win.  Anything short of that and we're as coaches disappointed."

Two key players returning to the lineup in 2012 are offensive tackle Trent Williams and tight end Fred Davis, both of whom ended last season with suspensions.

Shanahan stated his confidence in both men to remain in the lineup moving forward, and predicted big seasons for both players.

"Trent is one of the most talented players I've ever been around; he's one of the most talented tackles in this league," Shanahan explained.  "I think if Trent can be good at his technique, he can be a premier guy in this league.  We need him to be.

He continued: "I trust both of those guys to make the right decision.  They're out here doing everything they can. They've been very good leaders on our offense.  They work as hard as anyone.  I have a lot of confidence in them to make the right decision."
