On the same day that Jarvis Jenkins reportedly reached a deal with the Chicago Bears, former Redskins teammate Stephen Bowen says he has signed with the New York Jets.
Former Washington Redskins defensive lineman Stephen Bowen on Tuesday afternoon posted on his Instagram account a photo of him signing a contract with the New York Jets.
"As a kid you always dream of playing for the home team. Feels good to be a NY Jet. #GangGreen," Bowen wrote with the photo.
Raised in Dix Hills, N.Y., Bowen attended Hofstra University before signing with the Dallas Cowboys as a college free agent on May 1, 2006.
A Cowboy for his first five seasons in the NFL, the 6-foot-5, 300-pound Bowen signed with the Washington Redskins on July 29, 2011.
During his first two seasons in burgundy and gold, Bowen appeared in all 32 regular-season games played.
He also recorded career highs in tackles (41) and sacks (six) during the 2011 season.
Bowen suffered a setback midway through the 2013 season, tearing his PCL in a Week 11 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The rehab from that injury spilled over into the start of the 2014 season, as he spent the first few weeks of the season on the Physically Unable To Perform (PUP) list. He made his season debut against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7.
Bowen was released by the Redskins on Feb. 27.
