Sweet Sounds For Cooley

Tight end Chris Cooley first heard the chants last season. Then, two weeks ago during the Aug. 5 scrimmage against the Baltimore Ravens at FedExField, he heard them again after almost every reception. In Saturday's game against the New York Jets, you could hear it even as Cooley ran out onto the field during pre-game.

"Coooooooool-ey."

It seems every team has had a player with a name that just seems to roll off the tongue, in terms of stadium chants. Remember "Moooose" Johnston for the Cowboys? Or "Duuuuuuce" Staley of the Eagles and Steelers?

Add Cooley to the list.

"I didn't get that in college," Cooley said recently. "That was new last year, so that was exciting. I can hardly even hear it after I make a play because there is so much other stuff going on."

Cooley says he is still adjusting to being one of the Redskins' more popular players among fans. He caught 71 passes for 774 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

"At Utah State, I never talked to the media, did any interviews or anything like that," he said. "I think I did maybe two phone interviews my senior year of college. It took me a while to feel comfortable. I'm still getting there."
