Tyler Polumbus, who played at tackle for the Washington Redskins from 2011 to 2014, on Tuesday announced his retirement from the NFL.

Polumbus, 30, played in nine total NFL seasons: two with the Denver Broncos (2008-09), two with the Seattle Seahawks (2010-11), and four with the Redskins before wrapping up his career with the Falcons (three games) and Broncos (11 games) in 2015.

Polumbus formally announced his retirement with a written note on his Facebook page:

"In 2008 Liz and I began the journey of a lifetime. 8 years and 4 teams later we feel that it is time to call it a career in the NFL. When this journey began I was just hoping that I could make the team with extremely long odds in front of me as an undrafted rookie. I thought it would be amazing to say that I played a season or two with the Denver Broncos. I never imagined that God would keep opening door after door for me to continue in this game. I am incredibly grateful for His mercy, grace, and blessings He has given my family."

Perhaps Polumbus' greatest achievement on the field with the Redskins was the 2012 season, when he started 15 games at right tackle, helping lead the league's top rushing attack with rookies at quarterback (Robert Griffin III) and running back (Alfred Morris). That team, which started the season 3-6, reeled off seven straight wins to capture its first NFC East title since the 1999 season.

Polumbus, who rides off into the sunset with a Super Bowl title with the Broncos, addressed that run in Washington on Tuesday:

"From the extreme nerves of my first start with Denver on Monday Night Football against James Harrison and Lamar Woodley of the Steelers, to the BeastQuake run in Seattle when we beat the Saints in the playoffs (it literally caused an earthquake), the 7 game winning streak that took an out of the picture Redskins team to NFC East Champs and the playoffs, the confetti snow angels that my kids made at the Super Bowl, the amazing moments of my career are abundant."

But perhaps Polumbus' top achievement in his career has been the establishment of his "Tyler's Kid Outreach," which strives to enrich the lives of children through family, faith and personal growth.

So best of luck to Tyler and his family as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
