NFL Network reporter Rand Getlin is reporting that former Redskins tackle Tom Compton, a free agent, will sign with the Atlanta Falcons.

Tackle Tom Compton is reuniting with former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Atlanta, according to NFL Network’s Rand Getlin.

Compton was a restricted free agent, but the Redskins opted not to extend an offer to the South Dakota product, thus making him an unrestricted free agent.

Selected with the 193rd-overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Compton appeared in 44 games for the Redskins over the last four seasons with 10 starts.

Nine of those starts came during the 2014 season when he replaced Tyler Polumbus as the team's starting right tackle.

But with the team taking Brandon Scherff in the first round of the 2015 Draft and then eventually moving Morgan Moses into the starting lineup, Compton was a backup during the 2015 season, appearing mostly as an extra blocker/tight end in the team's "giant" package.

Compton would not catch any passes out of the set, but he did total 212 offensive snaps during the season along with 96 on special teams.

In joining the Falcons, Compton becomes the third former Redskins offensive lineman to join Atlanta in in two years after Chris Chester and Polumbus both signed with the Falcons last offseason. Chester stayed in Atlanta for the season, while Polumbus eventually landed with the Denver Broncos. Both are currently free agents.

The Redskins, meanwhile, currently have just four tackles on the roster at the moment, as Moses is joined by perennial Pro Bowler Trent Williams along with Takoby Cofield and Ty Nsekhe.

Nsekhe, 30, joined the Redskins last February and appeared in 13 games with two starts in his first NFL action since 2012.

Cofield spent the entire 2015 season on the practice squad after signing as a college free agent. He played in 51 games for Duke and earned third-team All-ACC honors as a senior.
