Training Camp to Stay At Redskins Park

For the sixth time in eight years, the Redskins are expected to host training camp at Redskins Park, the team's year-round practice facility in Ashburn, Va.

Head coach Joe Gibbs told reporters that the team's training camp "will stay in Ashburn" during an interview at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

However, training camp could start earlier this year.

At the request of players, Gibbs has adjusted the off-season workouts schedule, allowing players to report in early May.

In exchange, players will report to training camp in late-July. In years past, players reported to training camp the first week of August.

"Players will be on their own [during off-season workouts], but they will have to check in with position coaches," Gibbs said. "I trust them. We have been together for three years. I'm willing to take a different approach. I am willing to change anything."

Gibbs has praised having training camp at Redskins Park, saying that he enjoyed the convenience of holding camp at the year-round facility.

"Logistically, it is so hard to move training camp away from Redskins Park now," he added.

During Gibbs' first tenure with the team from 1981-93, the Redskins held training camp at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., each year. In 1994, the team moved to Frostburg State College in Frostburg, Md., then shifted to Redskins Park in 2000. The Redskins returned to Carlisle for training camp in the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

Since 2003, the team has hosted training camp at Redskins Park.

It is expected that players will once again stay as a team at the National Conference Center in nearby Lansdowne, Va.

The complete training camp schedule will be available later this summer.

As in years past, specific practices will be open to the public. There'll be souvenirs and jerseys available at retail trailers, opportunities for autographs--and of course, Gibbs and the Redskins players gearing up for the 2007 regular season.
