The day of the NFL Draft is upon us, a time many hopefuls have their dreams come true.
But if you look back at offensive lineman Joe Jacoby's career, you may be surprised to find that his name was never announced by the Commissioner.
The Redskins eventually offered the Lousiville product a contract in 1981, and reaped the rewards until the end of his decorated career in 1993.
Jacoby, one of the original Hogs and a three-time Super Bowl champion, has been a semifinalist several times for enshrinement in Canton, and most recently became a finalist in 2016, just missing the cut.
He was a terrific tackle on the greatest offensive line in NFL history — he was voted to four consecutive Pro Bowls and named to the NFL's 1980s All-Decade Team.
"It was disheartening, but I take a lot of satisfaction in we were close as far as what I heard came out of the room, so that's very encouraging," Jacoby told The Redskins Blog in March. "I'm hoping soon I'll be one of the next enshrinees."
