LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation announced today that Episcopal High School head football coach, Panos Voulgaris, has been named the Redskins High School Coach of the Week presented by Inova Sports Medicine for the week of Nov. 7.

Voulgaris is in his fifth season as head coach at Episcopal. This past weekend, the Maroon improved to 8-0 after defeating Georgetown Preparatory School by a score of 17-7. With this victory, Episcopal secured their first outright Interstate Athletic Conference title.

Prior to coaching at Episcopal, Voulgaris was the head coach at The Taft School in Connecticut. During his tenure, he served as President of the New England Preparatory School Football Coaches Association. Voulgaris is an active member of the American Football Coaches Association and was most recently selected to coach in the Under Armour All-American game in January 2017.

Jim Fitzpatrick, Epicopal's Director of Boys' Athletics, spoke highly of the relationship that Voulgaris has with his student-athletes.

"Coach Voulgaris establishes terrific relationships with all of his players, based on trust and communication," Fitzpatrick said. "He is able to motivate his team members both on and off the field with positive reinforcement and a clear message of 'team first.'"

Fitzpatrick called the health and safety of student-athletes the "main priority" of the Episcopal Athletic Department. The coaching staff at Episcopal follow a strict concussion protocol that was established by the school's Athletic Trainers and medical staff. Coaches are also required to be CPR certified in order to coach each year.

Coach Voulgaris holds both academics and community outreach in high regard. Voulgaris currently works in the Office of Admissions and as a history teacher at Episcopal.

"He truly believes in 'school first' and he works hard to ensure that all of his players are working hard in the classroom" Fitzpatrick said.
