Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation to Host Free Football Clinic for Moms

WASHINGTON REDSKINS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION TO HOST FREE FOOTBALL CLINIC FOR MOMS

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and USA Football, in partnership with Dick's Sporting Goods and Independence Golf Course, will host a free football clinic for 150 Richmond-area moms on Friday, July 31 starting at 11 a.m. at Independence Golf Course (600 Founders Bridge Blvd., Midlothian, Va.).

Participants will enjoy a day of interactive training on the game of football. Following, they will be transported to the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center for VIP access to view Washington Redskins open-practice. Timeline for the event is as follows:

11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.    Program and speaker remarks
11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.    On field USA Football Heads Up Tackling instruction
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.    Lunch
2:00 p.m.    Arrival at Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center
3:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.    Viewing of afternoon practice
5:00 p.m.    Event concludes; moms return to Independence Golf Course

Featured speakers include Redskins Alumnus Chris Cooley. The former 2-time NFL Pro Bowl tight end and current ESPN 980 radio broadcaster will discuss his own experiences playing football and answering questions from attendees. Representatives from Dick's Sporting Goods will be present to review the appropriate attire for a football player from head to toe as well as proper equipment fitting. Topics covered at the clinic will also include education on the importance of safety and fundamentals for young players.

As part of the event, moms in attendance will practice Heads Up Tackling. USA Football's Heads Up Tackling program is designed to teach the core principles of tackling and set a new standard in player safety. The program utilizes five fundamentals through a series of drills to reinforce proper tackling mechanics and teach players how to properly tackle with a focus on reducing helmet-to-helmet contact.
