Montgomery County public school students to be rewarded for their commitment to reading

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation (WRCF) will reward Roscoe R. Nix Elementary School in Silver Spring, Md. for its commitment to reading by hosting a Play 60 Celebration at the school on Friday, May 8 from 10 a.m. – noon.

From October 2014 to March 2015, students across the Washington, D.C. metro area participated in the Redskins Read Challenge, which encourages and provides incentives to kindergarten through sixth grade students to explore the joys of reading.

A total of 51 schools, representing 20 counties, participated in the 2014-15 Redskins Read Challenge. Across all participating schools, Roscoe R. Nix Elementary School had the highest student participation rate in the program, with approximately 70 percent of the school's enrollment participating in the challenge.

To reward Roscoe R. Nix Elementary School's commitment to reading, the WRCF event will include interactive HOPSports assemblies for all grades and a special Play 60 Mini-Combine for second grade students. Schedules permitting, Redskins players Michael Hill, Shawn Lauvao, Niles Paul and Darrel Young will join in the action as students participate in football drills and other activities.

Committed to promoting literacy, the WRCF has delivered more than 1.9 million Redskins Read Activity Books across the Washington, D.C. metro area.
