Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation To Host Redskins FITT End Of Year Celebration

LANDOVER, Md. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation (WRCF), in partnership with District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) will host the Redskins FITT End of Year Celebration at FedExField on Friday, May 12 from 10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Olympian Kellie Brinkley, Redskins players Derek Carrier, Vernon Davis, Jonathan Allen, Ryan Grant Anthony Lanier II II and Niles Paul, and Redskins alumnus Josh Wilson,as well as other local fitness celebrities will participate in a panel discussion led by NBC4 anchor Carol Maloney about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, followed by a group workout for more than 1,000 DCPS 7th grade students. Activities will include warm-ups and stretching with Nike Fitness Trainer Deanna Robinson, a kid's hip-hop routine coordinated by NuYou Wellness and yoga cool down led by YoKid.

This celebration will conclude the pilot year of Redskins FITT a youth health and wellness initiative designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle and assist middle school students in the development of a personalized two-week fitness plan. The curriculum was created in partnership with DCPS and the American Diabetes Association.  More than 2,400 DCPS 7th grade students participated in the program.

During the celebration, the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation will recognize 18 DCPS middle schools that participated in the program through completion of FITTbooks, as well as hosting FITT workshops during the year. Each school will also leave with a bag of new equipment to continue facilitating exercises they learned through the program.

DCPS middle schools had the opportunity to request up to two Redskins FITT workshops during the 2016 – 2017 school year (47 workshops were hosted by the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation in the pilot year). Workshop topics included physical activity, nutrition and cognitive development. Lessons from each workshop will be incorporated in the celebration to highlight what students have learned from the program.

  • Wheatley Education Campus
