Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 1/17

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Friday, January 17, 2013.

All reports, rumors and conjecture are a reflection of the media conversation and are not endorsed or confirmed by the Washington Redskins.

--DeAngelo Hall made his case that he is the best cornerback in the NFL on the TV show "Keepin' it Real with Mike Hill."  Hall said, "In man-to-man coverage, ain’t nobody better than me."

--Why free agent Brian Orakpo may be one of the most sought after pass rushers this offseason. Only five players in the NFL had more sacks than his 11 this year and each of those players had more snaps (457) than Orakpo's 363 according to Pro Football Focus.

--According to reports, Wes Phillips may be a potential replacement for Sean McVay for the tight ends coaching position. McVay has been promoted to offensive coordinator and Phillips' contract with the Dallas Cowboys is expiring.

--Washington Nationals infielder Ryan Zimmerman spoke on 106.7 The Fan yesterday and commented on social media and the way that Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III handled his Facebook account. Zimmerman said, "Sometimes it’s best not to respond, I guess, would be the best answer."

--The Washington Redskins will keep Raheem Morris as their secondary coach going into next season. The Redskins also announced the hiring of inside linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti who returns to the Redskins after spending the past three years at the University of Georgia.

--A look at offensive coordinator Sean McVay and how he became the Redskins offensive coordinator at the young age of 27 and the youngest offensive coordinator in the NFL.

--How running back Alfred Morris still has a chance to make it to the Pro Bowl. With Conference Championship games left to be played and then the Super Bowl, there will most likely be a roster spot open for Morris to fill.

--What offensive lineman Adam Gettis needs to do to remain a factor for the Redskins moving forward this offseason. Gettis was a fifth round draft pick in 2012 and was active for every game in 2013 but his most in-game action was vs. the Chiefs where he played 17 snaps.

--What wide receiver Aldrick Robinson![](/team/roster/aldrick-robinson/1895964a-750b-43a3-b62d-6624f1e524c8/ "Aldrick Robinson")'s outlook for 2014 is according to one reporter and how he can improve on a career year in 2013 where he saw career highs in receptions (18), targets (46), yards (365) and first downs (14).

--One reporter wonders if the Redskins hired the right Bengals coordinator after Mike Zimmer left Cincinnati as defensive coordinator to go to Minnesota to become the Viking head coach.

--What the Redskins need to do to get back to the top of the NFC East next season including improvement in the defensive secondary. Quick receivers like DeSean Jackson on the Eagles who has 32 receptions, 17.9 yards/catch and  five touchdowns in 11 games have hurt the Redskins.

--A look at the moves made by the Redskins in terms of their coaching staff and how this is the first time since Jim Haslett has been in Washington that he's been able to hire his own staff.

--Who the Redskins must bring back as many players from last years team are currently free agents this offseason. Linebacker Perry Riley will be a key target for the Redskins as Riley has put up impressive stats as he compiled over 100 tackles in back to back years in 2012-13.

--The Washington Redskins team report from Yahoo Sports, which includes how the team can improve this offseason, how the coaching changes will impact the team, unrestricted free agent updates and a positional analysis for the Redskins team.

--Free agent DeAngelo Hall commented on the Redskins team name on the Fox Sports show "Keepin' it Real with Mike Hill." Hall said, "I think eventually they will change it, they probably should."
